Come and enjoy a lush lunch on a lazy Sunday afternoon in Pyrmont.
We are kicking off our lush lunch dining experience at Vera’s Cocktail Lounge, on the upper floor of The Terminus. Enjoying a sparkling cocktail and mezze, before touring Pyrmont one of Sydney’s oldest working harbour precincts. A luxurious upstairs space spilling out onto a large, outdoor terrace the lounge is is named after Vera Dempsey, the long-term publican before the pub called last drinks 30 years ago.
The Terminus is one of Sydney’s oldest pubs which was legally licensed on Christmas Eve 1841. The old girl has an eclectic, rich and chequered past with generations of colourful characters that included gamblers, revelers and members of Sydney’s underbelly lining the bar on a regular basis.
Vera was involved in the earlier behind-the-scenes running of the pub so naturally she took over the license after her husband’s death. Mrs. Dempsey is remembered by older Pyrmont locals as a strong and fair woman. The type of woman often caricatured as the typical matriarchal publican who kept the men ‘under control’.
For mains we are popping across to The Goodsline - named after the industrial railway connecting Sydney’s Inner West industrial suburbs to the docks - and opened in early 2021. Not a lot of freight happens these days but the brassiere is still connecting Sydney's inner west with the harbour end of Harris Street.
The current crew focus on specialty coffee and serving-up a killer brunch menu. Curated by executive chef Chris Evanges (ex-Watson’s Bay Hotel) the menu features both classic and new wave brunch favourites. A friendly welcoming space where locals gather and connect in the buzzy dining room or on the generous outdoor terrace. The industrial chic interior space leans in heavily on design, with creative fit out by award winning Sydney-based architecture and interior design firm, Luchetti Krelle.
For an aperitif post our walk we will be relaxing in the beautiful garden courtyard of Gallon, a sprawling sandstone pub whose name reflects a piece of vital history about the precinct. Take in the Sunday Funday scene over a delicious Limoncello Spritz or a glass of fine Australian Riesling.
