September 2024 Newsletter

This month, we’re spotlighting: Gelato Messina’s new seasonal menu, designed to be an experimental, immersive and indulgent six-course degustation, showcasing the perfect balance of sweet, savoury and umami. Our friends at Ezra have opened Teddy - an Aussie Bar & Bistro with the mantra : affordable, accessible, and approachable. Plus Arms Length has re-located from Redfern to Kellett Street, Potts Point.

Teddy Opening

We are excited about the recent opening of Teddy, a new Aussie bistrot from the Ezra team on Kellett Street, Potts Point.

With the mantra : affordable, accessible, and approachable. This translates into comforting, carb-rich dishes such as warm rolls slathered in garlicky butter and fries seasoned with salt and vinegar. Picture golden fried potato skins carrying a hint of whipped cod roe and pearls of salmon caviar. And a standout main: Trottole Cacio e Pepeberry. This dish features curly pasta coated in a cacio e pepe sauce made with native pepperberry instead of black pepper, layered over sautéed spinach, then topped with cheese and baked to a perfect crunch, lasagna-style. Staying true to their commitment to affordability, all mains are priced under $40.

The menu has been crafted by Ben Sears, former head chef at Ezra and now cooking at Public Wine Shop in Melbourne, with head chef Nicole Coelho leading the Teddy kitchen.

We are looking forward to having another fab venue to dine at in the 'hood!

Arms Length Arrives

The latest arrival in the hood is Arms Length - formerly of Cleveland Street, Redfern - the crew has jumped the Oxford Street border to be part of the constantly evolving Kings Cross Quarter drinking & dining scene. The restaurant - which opened in August on Kellett Street, now occupies the space once home to the iconic Dean’s Cafe, where many Sydneysiders experienced their first dish of nachos back in the day.

There is some serious food talent in the kitchen with chefs Keno Perlas, formerly of Monopole and Margaret and Jeffrey Sue, formerly of Ormeggio and Rockpool, have crafted a dinner menu with a strong Italian influence. The dinner offerings at Arms Length feature dishes like calamari fritti and rigatoni with ragu, which co-owner Rebecca O’Shea describes as "Australian with an Italian influence." The courtyard garden still has that magical feel with fairy lights dressing the massive tree that stands in front of the grand terrace facade.

O’Shea explains that the recent openings of venues like The Hook and Vermuteria played a role in their decision to move to the area. "We’re drawn to this location because of its diverse demographics, the charming residential neighborhood of Potts Point, the weekend visitors, and the vibrant LGBTQ community," she says.

Bookings Open for Messina Creative

Gelato Messina Creative Department have released tickets for their seasonal October menu at their new Marrickville location.

This seasonal menu is designed to be an experimental, immersive and indulgent six-course degustation, showcasing the perfect balance of sweet, savoury and umami. Each dish is balanced with a gelato element, paired with complementing non-alcoholic drinks. They also have an eclectic drinks menu with bespoke cocktails, natural wines and aperitifs for an add-on.

We experienced the amazing concept of the Creative Dept a few years ago, at a friends private birthday celebration, and rate it highly in our top dining experiences. It's a taste sensation and like nothing you will have eaten before. The service is discrete and knowledgeable, the food and drink matches superb.

Book this for a special occasion or just because you want to try a truly unique dining experience.
