This month we’re excited to welcome Toei, the Korean/Japanese fusion restaurant to our Surry Hills Dining Tour. On a bittersweet note, we say goodbye to Leigh and Felix at Bei after 20 amazing years in hospitality. We wish them the best in their next chapter. Lastly, we loved reading Your Table is Ready by Michael Cecchi-Azzolina, an honest and humourous memoir about life in the service industry.
New Player | Toei
We are happy to announce our newest addition, Toei, to our Surry Hills Tour.
A hidden gem that merges casual dining with the refined culinary artistry of two cultures: Korean and Japanese. Known for its well-priced, innovative snack menu, Toei offers a tasting experience that’s both approachable and sophisticated. The dishes are unpretentious in description yet complex in flavor, showcasing the chef's expertise and creativity.
We have a special mini-menu created especially for our guests when you book for the Surry Hills tour this summer. Paired with a thoughtfully curated wine list or a well-made cocktail, the dining experience at Toei is one of balance, where quality, creativity, and value seamlessly come together.
Chef Kevin Jeon’s inventive approach to cooking is at the heart of this inner city dining destination.
Your Table is Ready
We recently finished reading Your Table is Ready by MIchael Cecchi-Azzolina, renowned for his many years of experience in hospitality. This book is a wonderful memoir of learning the trade, working the floor, partying and a homage to those that did and did not make it in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's food scene of New York. Having survived the Auckland version in the 90s, this book bought back many vivid memories. The author Michael Cecchi-Azzolina now has his own restaurant, Cecchi’s, a modern take on the classic New York bar & grill. He has curated a space that captures the atmosphere, vibrancy and true hospitality of New York City’s quintessential restaurants.
Farewell to Bei
We bid a heartfelt farewell to Leigh and Felix at Bei, as they embark on an exciting new chapter after an incredible 20 years in the hospitality industry. Their dedication, warmth, and exceptional service have left a lasting impact on all who have had the pleasure of dining at Bei. Last summer, they welcomed and hosted our guests with open arms, offering not only delectable snacks but also refreshing spritzy beverages that made every visit a memorable experience.
As they set off on their new adventures, we extend our best wishes. Thank you, Leigh, Felix and your staff for all the wonderful memories!
